Sharp Introduces New High-Efficient Residential Photovoltaic Modules in Japan

To accommodate the diverse range of roof styles and configurations in Japan, Sharp will introduce a full 15-model line-up that includes metal-roof models, flat-tiled-roof models, and peaked-roof/flat-roof/hipped-roof models that mount perfectly on the roofs of newly built or remodeled houses.

With the Kyoto Protocol now in effect, awareness for the preservation of the global environment is stronger than ever, and solar power generation systems, which operate without emitting CO2, are attracting more and more attention around the world. Japan leads the solar power generation system market with growing demand centering mainly on residential models. For demand to expand further, however, units must be able to accommodate a greater diversity in applications.

Manufactured using Sharp’s unique proprietary production technology, the high-density NE-152AR achieves the industry’s highest energy conversion of 15.8% for polycrystalline modules. Also, by adopting Dark Blue Cells featuring a specially processed surface, the appearance of the product has been improved to harmonize and coordinate with roofing materials and spark further demand. Of the new models for 2005, 14 will incorporate the new Dark Blue Cells, including the flagship model, the ND-157AR high-efficiency polycrystalline module.

As the world’s top manufacturer of solar cells for the past five years in a row, Sharp will strive to achieve its company vision of becoming a “Zero Global Warming Impact” company by offering a versatile line-up of highly efficient solar cells to aggressively expand market demand.
