A City with Zero Co2 is born
The Eco City is going to be a city with zero carbon dioxide emmissions and is going to be the home of 50 000 people. This project in the desert of Abu Dhabi is to show the world that carbon dioxide can be stopped.
Within the next ten years the „Masdar City“ will be built where at the moment there is only sand and it will be powered entirely by renewable energy. But why should a country that posesses approximately 10 percent of the worlds oil be interested in renewable energy? Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Co. explains: "There are two reasons. Number one, because we can. Number two, because we should. And because this is a logical step and a natural extension for our involvement in the energy markets." This means that Abu Dhabi is preparing itself for the future when there 10% of the worlds oil has shrank to near to nothing. Oil is running out and eventually there will be none left, that is why Abu Dhabi is preparing to sell new energy resources such as wind and solar to supply the energy needs.
Khaled Awad says, „Abu Dhabi wanted to show that it's aware of its carbon footprint today.“ This is why Abu Dhabi is raising payments for the project to an amazing $18 billion. This project has started to attract attention and a large amount of interest, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has declared itself willing to help the project in order to prove there devotion to the research of renewable energy. An architectural firm based in London, Foster and Partners, has done the design work for Masdar City.
Masdar City is going to become the testing range for future technologies, mainly western companies are going to benefit from Masdar City because mainly western companies are contributing to the succes of Masdar City.
"Mistakes will be made," Ardalan says, "and we'll be able to learn a lot. And I think we can then transfer this back to America, which is sort of funny because normally the transfer has been American technology, Western technology going to the East."
